The Regional Workshop on Climate Finance for Health
20–22 April 2026, Dr. Jittima Rodsawad, Director of the Health Impact Assessment Division, Dr. Benjawan Tawatsupa and Ms. Kanlaphat Phuengprayoon attended "The Regional Workshop on Climate Finance for Health" in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The event was organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Lao PDR.
The workshop brought together 40 participants involved in Climate Change and Health and Health National Adaptation Plan (HNAP) from 5 countries participating in the ADB-supported project “Strengthening the Climate Resilience Health Systems in Southeast Asia” including Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Lao PDR. The international organizations including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Adaptation Fund, UNDP, WHO, Save the Children, JICA, and ADB were also in attendance.
The main objective of the workshop was to enhance skills and mechanisms for accessing climate finance. Key sessions included :
- Concept Note Development: Practical training on analyzing public health risks to prioritize activities and techniques for writing project proposals to secure funding.
- Fund Matching: Learning selection criteria and conditions for various funding sources to align with Health National Adaptation Plans (HNAP) and drafting project proposals.
- Site Visit to a Children's Hospital in Vientiane to study management models for safe, clean , Green, and Climate Resilient Health Facilities.
During the meeting, representatives from the Department of Health, Thailand presented on several key areas of critical health risk situations resulting from climate change in Thailand, progress in implementing the HNAP, current collaborations with international organizations to seek financial support from global funds including the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund, as well as ongoing ADB-supported projects. To ensure continuity, the Health Impact Assessment Division plans to utilize the knowledge and expert recommendations gained from this workshop to refine project proposals for future international funding applications.
